How many memes have you seen talking sarcastically about how great it was that we learned the Pythagorean theorem because that's really come in handy, as someone is struggling to figure out how to pay taxes or some other life skill?
I feel like somewhere along the lines, schools lost sight of what their purpose was supposed to be, which is to prepare kids with the things they'll need to know for adulthood.
Some say parents are supposed to provide the bulk of that "life skills" knowledge, which I agree with, but when parents are expected to cram all the things they're missing into a few hours in the evenings and weekends when there's also homework and dinner and soccer practice and maybe some time to PLAY fit in there also, it can be hard!
With homeschooling, kids have the TIME to learn the things that will serve then well later in life.
And that's one reason I'm a fan of it.
